The third paper in a peripheral arterial disease (PAD) series describes the disease's individual-level effects, including chronic pain, functional limitation, loss of independence, and impaired quality of life, along with high risk of major amputation, myocardial infarction, stroke, and death. The paper reports that the burden of PAD falls disproportionately on women, First Nations Peoples, other non-White individuals, financially insecure patients, and those in remote areas, and it recommends improving disease awareness, multidisciplinary care models, testing early screening and medical management, and modifying health-care service access for underserved populations.
